Hamburg Chrono Edition Vintage: A Chronograph with a Story

A sunny afternoon in Hamburg. The Alster sparkles in the light, white sailboats glide gently across the water, seagulls circle in the sky. Along the shoreline, a vintage car cruises by – a scene straight out of an old movie, now immortalized on the case back of the Hamburg Chrono Edition Vintage.

The Hamburg Chrono Edition Vintage brings the elegance and optimism of the 1920s back to your wrist. Inspired by a time when technology, design, and vibrancy merged into a new symbiosis – and Hamburg began to evolve into the cosmopolitan city it is today.

Worry-free thanks to sapphire crystal

We only use sapphire crystal for our timepieces. This type of watch glass is usually found in the luxury watch market.

For a perfect view of the dial, we apply a double anti-reflective coating to the sapphire crystal.

What exactly is sapphire crystal?

Sapphire is the third hardest transparent material in the world - after diamond and moissanite.

Curved sapphire crystal not only looks good, it makes the durable watch crystal even more resistant.

This makes it virtually impossible for your sapphire crystal watch to get scratched in everyday life.

For Urban Explorers and Lovers of Classic Design

The polished stainless steel case in a warm gold tone measures 42 mm and rests comfortably on the wrist. The dark green dial with gold and orange hands, accented with Luminova, reflects the color palette of the 1920s – elegant, bold, and unique. A dark brown strap made of high-quality cowhide leather completes the vintage look.

The flowing lines of the case, the subtly domed dial with satin-brushed texture, and the finely tuned color palette are reminiscent of the elegant interiors of classic cars. It combines the timeless design language of the era with the precision of a modern timekeeper.

Playing with time

In Hamburg, various regattas hold tradition. What makes this sport unique: the race begins even before the starting gun. Because here, it's decided who sails into pole position.

Nevertheless, sailboats are in constant motion, propelled by the wind, as crews remain on standby for minutes until the race officially commences. Timing is critical. Hence, the watch becomes the sailor's best companion.

The Hamburg Chrono aims to be your motivator, urging you to give your all. It's the witness to your achievements as you strive for personal bests. For in life, as in sailing, every second counts.

We've captured this spirit on the reverse side: with a detailed engraving depicting two sailboats racing on the Outer Alster lake. A spectacle we witness firsthand year after year.

Wrist-bound navigation

They go by various names – Yachttimer, Regatta-Timer, Yacht-Chronographs, or Sailing Watches – and they inspired our new STERNGLAS Hamburg Chrono. But why are they so vital?

A brief primer on sailing watches: A Regatta-Timer is a timepiece equipped with a countdown function, specifically designed for regattas. Once set, it displays the remaining time until the race begins.

Yet, a chronograph serves purposes beyond this, aiding in tactical maneuvers, decision-making, or timing between waypoints.

It's a motivator, a witness to success, and a crucial instrument in watersports.

What our customers say about us

Why we make Bauhaus watches?

In your search for a classic and durable watch, you are faced with 2 alternatives today:

1. you can buy a watch from a luxury manufacturer for a very high price, or
2. a watch from a trendy brand whose quality is as short-lived as the trend that made the brand popular.

Moin! I'm Dustin Fontaine, Founder of STERNGLAS...

When I worked in a watch manufactory during my school days and was looking for a watch for myself, I realised that there would have to be a 3rd alternative.

3. Since 2016, we have been breaking new ground and developing timeless Bauhaus-style watches that will outlive trends and continue to give pleasure for many years to come. And all that at a fair price.

In the meantime, over 53,000 watch lovers are convinced of our mission and our watch design has received several awards.

Seiko TMI VK64 Mecha-Quartz Movement

A very special movement beats inside the Hamburg Chrono: the Seiko Mecha-Quartz VK64. This remarkable quartz chronograph movement impresses with its tactile feel and the smooth, fast movement of the hands.

The pushers of the movement offer a clearly defined pressure feeling and the central chronograph hand ticks in fine 1/5-second increments.

The highlight is the 2-point hammer system. After pressing the reset button, all chronograph hands return to zero immediately and synchronised - just like a mechanical chronograph. Thanks to this movement, the date window is also larger.

After 60 minutes have elapsed, the chronograph hand stops again.

Interchangeable Strap for Any Occasion

Bridle leather is known as a high-quality and durable type of leather, commonly used in the production of equestrian gear such as bridles, harnesses, and saddles, as well as in premium bags, belts, and furniture. After tanning, the leather is treated with a blend of waxes and oils that not only enhances its durability but also gives it a rich, deep shine.

The chronograph is available with either a leather strap or a sleek metal bracelet. Thanks to the convenient quick-release mechanism, the strap can be effortlessly swapped out to match your personal style.

Easy strap change without tools

Thanks to the quick-change system, you can give your timepiece a new look in just 10 seconds:

1 — Slide the pin of the spring bar inwards.

2 — Pull the strap off the watch.

3 — Put on a new strap by sliding the pin inwards again and inserting the spring bar one after the other into the holes in the case.

Can I order the watch with a different strap?

We are happy to check if your desired watch can be ordered with an alternative strap. Simply send an e-mail to support@sternglas.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

How long does the battery last?

The batteries we use typically last between 2-5 years. We recommend having a jeweler or watchmaker perform a battery replacement.

Did you know that ...

... Hamburg and timekeeping have been closely linked for centuries?

In seafaring, knowing the correct time meant arriving at the right place at the right time. By converting time intervals into longitude, distances to the home port or destination port were determined. This enabled sailors around Hamburg to navigate safely through the waters.
